We are so proud of these young women and know they are all on their road to greatness!

After a grueling week of auditions Atelier Dancers Carolina Montes and Lauren Herb have successfully made the very competitive Dance team, the Golden Knights at the University Of Central Florida.

Also, Sahara Sears has successfully made the NFL Buccaneers Cheerleaders 2008 Team for the third time.

Atelier of Dance partners with Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind

Our newest and most exciting endeavor at the studio is our newly established partnership with the non-profit organization, Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind. The Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind provides comprehensive rehabilitation programs for persons who are blind or visually impaired. At Atelier of Dance we strongly believe that every child and young adult should have the opportunity to participate in dance and the arts.

Atelier of Dance has partnered with Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind to provide weekly classes for blind and visually impaired students ranging in age from 14-17 years. The partnership began when the director of Atelier of Dance, Ms. Sandra Sears, approached the non-profit organization about teaching the students lessons in tap dancing. The classes are also assisted by two of Ms. Sears’ 8th grade Wilson Middle School students, Sarah Jane Ramos and Ali Eldridge, who both graciously donate their time as community service hours. Both girls who participate as demonstrators in the class are very excited to be participating.

Ms. Sears begins introducing the steps each class by assisting the students in moving their feet in the desired manner and the students seem to pick up the steps immediately. Ms. Sears believes that tap is something that the students will have more ease in learning because the sounds and rhythms can be felt and heard to assist in the learning process. In speaking on her enthusiasm about directing the class, Ms. Sears has said, “I am not sure who has learned more, the teacher or the students! The kids who participate in the class have no limitations and do an amazing job while having a wonderful time. It is a very positive endeavor and an exciting new experience for me as a teacher.”
